Turn of Phrase
Jennifer Dunne is a BFA graduate from the University of Calgary with a studio specialization in Printmaking. Her studies in this area have led to a strong appreciation of the power and importance of line. Using etching and drawings on a variety of media, she explores the transcendence of memories and history beyond the individual.
By illustrating old artifacts and objects, she presents a canvas on which the viewer can navigate their own memories of home, heart and safety and give them a new dimension. Associating sounds and smells through the naming of her work, each piece becomes a full exercise in the recollection of a memory. Each work has a playful or distorted perspective, to further represent the way in which a remembrance of a place, person or thing can be taken out of context and have a different meaning to each individual through his or her unique interaction with the space/memory.
These works represent the creation of memories and the identification of space of comfort, a home in your mind that is brought to life through art.
