A. Basics of Art
Monday evenings

Basic Art Lessons is for anyone interested in introductory art classes. Some materials are included. Students are encouraged to purchase a sketchbook and a drawing tool (like a pencil) so that they can take notes and/or work on improving their skills at home. We will cover: Composition, Perspective, Handling of materials, Drawing from life, Drawing from your own photographs, Using wet media as a drawing tool, Portraits, Gesture drawing, Colour Mixing & Theory.

Prerequesite: Basic Art Lessons (recommended but not mandatory)
For those who are ready to dive into painting! We will complete one technique-based project per week – you choose the subject matter. Photo references: Please bring your own photographs or photo compilations, not magazine cut-outs or someone else’s artwork. We will learn how to visually “crop” your personal photographs in order to create pleasing and successful compositions suitable for artwork creation.
Techniques to be experimented with: impasto (knife) painting, glazing, “alla prima” (direct painting or wet into wet), collage/mixed media, toning your canvas, working from photographs, working from life, fixing mistakes, masks/masking fluid, drawing and more.
Subject matter: Landscape, Abstract, Figurative, Illustration, Collage, Animals, Plants, Still Life… anything goes!
