Sketch Art Supplies, located in Mount Pleasant/Tuxedo area of NW Calgary, is offering beginner adult art classes. Abstract, Landscape, Still Life, Collage, Knife Painting… these are just some of the subjects/techniques that we will learn about!

Ljubica Todorovic, owner of Sketch Art Supplies and primary instructor, has been teaching beginner art lessons for 4 years (3 years at her previous business location, Studio Todorovic in Art Central, and one at Colours Art and Framing in Marda Loop). She has a BFA in Drawing (2006) from ACAD and also worked for ACAD as a Tutor (art, writing) and Learning Strategist. Ljubica is well-versed and practiced in artist materials product knowledge, art techniques, art theory, concept, portfolio building and more.

Your classes will take place in an environment created by an artist, complete with artist studio and all. Ljubica is an artist who will answer your questions truthfully and provide hands-on, experienced assistance to you on your art journey.

Ljubica gives art lessons whenever there are enough people (4 minimum) interested in any particular subject. Dates for classes are created after the minimum number of people (4) commit to purchasing art classes. A. Basic Art Lessons

Saturday morning 9 am – 11 am
Sunday daytime 12 pm – 2 pm

Please make sure to attend all classes. Refunds and/or make up sessions will not be given to students who miss classes. You must attend each class on the same day you signed up for.

Basic Art Lessons is for anyone interested in introductory art classes. Some materials are included. Students are encouraged to purchase a sketchbook and a drawing tool (like a pencil) so that they can take notes and/or work on improving their skills at  home. We will cover: Composition, Perspective, Handling of materials, Drawing from life, Drawing from your own photographs, Using wet media as a drawing tool, Portraits, Gesture drawing, Colour Mixing & Theory.

B. Medium-Based Art Classes

Acrylic Painting, Oil Painting or Watercolour Painting

Prerequesite: Basic Art Lessons (recommended but not mandatory)

For those who are ready to dive into painting! We will complete one technique-based project per week – you choose the subject matter. Photo references: Please bring your own photographs or photo compilations, not magazine cut-outs or someone else’s artwork. We will learn how to visually “crop” your personal photographs in order to create pleasing and successful compositions suitable for artwork creation.

Techniques to be experimented with: impasto (knife) painting, glazing, “alla prima” (direct painting or wet into wet), collage/mixed media, toning your canvas, working from photographs, working from life, fixing mistakes, masks/masking fluid, drawing and more.

Subject matter: Landscape, Abstract, Figurative, Illustration, Collage, Animals, Plants, Still Life… anything goes!
